12/7/10
Roy Hammond is asking for donations to New Alternatives for their holiday party and gifts. Please bring to the next two meetings as we will be taking them over on the 17 or 18.  He needs snacks and hot chocolate and any other item that is good for  teenagers.  A list was sent out on the 8th by Ann of specifics. The guest speaker was Gary Shephard who is a retired news correspondent for both CBS and ABC for 35 years. He covered such events as the Vietnam War and the Exon oil spill to mention only a few.  He now works at the Maritime Museum with John Reid.  Call John Raue to volunteer for the upcoming Basketball Tournament from 12/27-12/30.

We had our annual Christmas meeting at our evening meeting.  Many were dressed in holiday clothes and the manor was nicely decorated.  We had a brief meeting so we could all enjoy the holiday festivities with eachother.

11/17/10
John Reid updated us on the Kettle Corn sales for the Craft Fair--over $1000--great job!
John Raue will send around the basketball sign-up sheet at the next meeting.  Please plan to work sometime that wee.  The last day to submit ads for the program is Dec. 1 so contact either John or Duane.  We have 37 ads so far.
Installation of new member-Shelia Baddeley and Tom Woodrum was performed. they will be a great asset to our Club.
Jerry Fulk reported on the Rohr Manor lease options.  It was opened for discussion and many ideas surfaced.  They will be looked into.
No meeting next week due to Thanksgive...enjoy your turkey!

We met at the Bonita Community Room due to the Craft Show by another group at Rohr Manor.  Walt talked during the meeting about getting more people to help out to make our Club be more successful and helping more children in our community.

Our evening meeting was another great one. Reminders about the Girls Basketball Tournament in Dec. was discussed.  We desperately need ads and the deadline is less than one month to go.  Tomas Sibaja was our guest speaker.  He talked about being a civilian with the Department of Defense and had been serving in Irag.

Bonita Craft Show is from Nov. 7-11. and we are selling Kettlecorn. Contact John Reid to sign up to help make and sell it. With the craft sale, our meeting will be in the Bonita Community Room at the same time.
Deadline for the Basketball ads is December 1 so get them into Duane Lucca.
Roy Hammond needs volunteers to take kids from New Alternatives to plays for the 4th Qtr. Please contact him so they can make plans.
Seaman B. Kelly and Lt. S Groak spoke of their history and 11 missions of the US Coast Guard.  Seaman Kelly was a 2004 Bonita Vista High graduate.

President Walt thanked everyone for their support of our great Craft Show and Used Book Sale and the Kid's News Day sales. Also be sure to support our Optimist Basketball Tournament and sell as many ads as possible.  The due date for the ads is Dec. 1.
Congressman Bob Filner was the speaker and he talked about his Chairmanship to the Veterans Committee.  His big push is to stop homeless Veterans in the next five years.

John Raue talked about the basketball tournament and stated that this year will only be girls  and that we have a goal of 120 ads so please be sure to participtate.
Donna talked about the Craft Show this coming weekend and said we are using yellow bags for a better security system.  If you want to volunteer, please contact her or just come by that day and we will find a place to help.
Dr. Chopra, the President of Southwestern College  talked about the "Corner Project" being built on the corner of H St and Otay Lakes.  There project will be a 140,000 sq. ft and should be completed by Aug. 2012.  It will contain a new book store,Cafe, Wellness Center,Conference Space, classrooms and even a Police Station.

Our new president, Walt Kraker, had his first meeting tonight.  He expressed thanks to Harley Perry for all of his guidance and help with our Club this past year. He also shared a few ideas he had about the direction he would like to see our Club go this coming year.
Linda Bethel, a Public Health Nurse, talked about various health concerns and how to avoid them.
