June 10Al thanked everyone for the donations that have been flowing in for Dime A Day Drive.  First dollar update will come next week.  Don't forget to mail your donation today!!  On 6-19 the Bonita Optimist will be helping the Bonita Roadrunners with there Pancake Breakfast.  We will be supporting the Taste of Bonita on 7/19. This helps support the wonderful Bonita Museum. Please see Carol Hammond for tickets.  Roy Hammond recognized the great work counselor Jennifer Barnes has been doing at New Alteratives which is one of the big recipients from our Club. 
Our Speaker was Bob Jahrias, who is a former World War II pilot and POW spoke about his experiences during the war.  Thanks to Bob for his service and his sacrifice.









June 3- Our evening meeting was one of getting back to the business of membership and supporting of our own club.  Al Monahan and Bill Newsome gave some ideas on how we can get more support from all of our members. Harley also shared some concerns about having our club remaining in Rohr Manor.  We are hopeful that the city will be able to work with us to remain in this wonderful and historic building.

May 27- Harley thaked the Rorh Manner Saturday Clean-up Crew.  20 plus members came and helped last Saturday.  Be looking for your "Dime A Day" donation envelope coming next week.  The goal is $5000.  Please give what you can.
Guest speaker is a 20 year veteran of the California Highway Patrol  - Captian Rich Stewart.  With all the budget cuts - the new motto of the CHP is "Less is the New More". The CHP has 3 offices in the SanDiego area - Oceanside, El Cajon and San Diego.  He conducted a interesting Q & A session with the members.   

May 20-  Our newest member, Charles Gilly, was installed today. We also awarded 7 students from area high schools each received a $1000.00 scholarship. From Bonita Vista were Carla A., Felipe C., Toni V. , Julian M., and Donovan C..  Otay Ranch's Brandon L. and Eastlake's Dillon D. were also recipients.   We also gave the Sound Unlimited/Music Machine from Bonita Vista a $1000.00 donation.

Our Bonita Club was the most attended club at our District Quarterly this past Saturday. One of our students from our Essay Contest was awarded $2500.00 for being one of two winners in the entire District!

Our golf tournament on June 11th is progressing nicely yet we still need more foursomes to sign up.  Please contact Chuck Hamilton or Ronny Perry.  If you know of a company who will donate to our Silent Auction following the tournament, please let Ronny know.  This should be another wonderful fundraiser for our Club!














May 13-  Our Quarterly meeting is this Saturday at Grossmont Community College. The Golf Tournament is coming up in less than one month.  Please call Chuck Hamilton to sign up soon.  We also have our ball drop at $25.00 per ball with the chance of winning $1000.00.

Our guest speaker was Nick Popaditch who is an ex-marine who was part of the take down Saddam Hussein's statue.  He is also running for the 51st Congressional District and for more info. check his website www.popadithcforcongress.com.






April 2010 The entire month of April has been a very busy!  First we had the BV Octagon Club's Blood Drive.  On the 17th, we had another successful Spring Craft Show and Used Book Sale. At our evening meeting on the 22nd, we had our Essay Contest. Our winners were all from Bonita Vista and even had the same teacher. The topic this year was "The Internet: Today's Evolution or Tomorrow's Menace."  The winners were Isabel V., Michelle S. and Mikery H, ranging from 1st to 3rd place. The 8th annual Student Appreciation was held on Wed. the 28 with 16 students being recognized by their respective schools.  For group and individual pictures of this wonderful event, please go to bonitaoc.shutterfly.com. 3/18/10  We had a wonderful time at our annual St.Patrick's Day dinner. The food was fantastic with all the trimmings, we had a sing-a-long that was enhanced by music played by Carol Hamilton.  We also got the pleasure of hearing Chris Campion's wife sing "Danny Boy" and brought a tear to many eyes there. The entire evening was full house and was fantastic! A special thanks to Walt, Chris, John, Leo and all the other cooks for their wonderful tasting meal!













3/11/10 The Bonita Optimists donated new yard balls, basketballs, pool table top with nets and paddles, punching bag, hair, nail and facial items for the kids of our local, live-in community for teens.

At our morning meeting, we also had some of the new marketing team from the San Diego Padres give a wonderful presentation about their great fund-raising possibilities.  Look for more information on our site during the Padre season (www.padres.com)!


We also gave our donation to Coach Wayne Wooten from Bonita Vista High School for their help in our 40th annual Girls Basketball Tournament held in Dec. Principle John DeVore of Olympian Hish School also received a check as the tournament has now grown where both schools generously assist us in sponsoring this event.


3/8/10  We have had three very successful evening events in the past month!
We have had our Boys Oratorical Contest, Girls Oratorical Contest and the Dance for the Cure (to help fight Childhood Cancer).
The winner of our Girls Oratorical Contest was Marion Joy B., from B.V. Middle School.  Gabriel E.,  from B. V. High School, was the winner of our Boys Oratorical Contest. The topic this year was "Cyber Communication- Progress or Problem?" and the concensus was that is it definately progressive, with some warnings on a few problems that can occur. Each contestant had many different examples of how this newest method of communicating has made the world a better, more informed and well connected time to live in.
