The first meeting of this Optimist year started with a big bang......the Buffalo Soldiers! They shared wonderful stories about the original group as well as what is currently going on with them. They were wonderful and very educational!!






Our Installation/Year End Dinner was well attended by our members. Between our steaks, drinks, entertainment by a wonderful Barbershop quartet, it was a fantastic evening! Thank you for a great year and event Don and welcome to Dan!



​Our Holiday Dinner event was attended by over 50 of our members. With delicious food, games and a tremendous sing-a-long, lots of fun was had by all. We also got to celebrate Fran Cornell's birthday!! Thanks to one of our newest members,Linda, the decorations were extra special ad sparkling on every table we looked at!! Thanks also to Ruth and Daniel for preparing another fantastic and delicious holiday meal with all the trimming.....and freshly baked bread on each table....YUM!



We brught our annual donations to New Alternatives with the help of many of our members helps.  They received everything from basketballs, soccer balls, clothes, cosmetics, shampoo and scented body wash, arts and craft supplies, journals, books and even cookies.  Then on Saturday we arranged for 7 kids to go spend the day at Sea World thanks to their donations., 





Our club gathered to again make boxes with a full holiday meal for needy military men and women. After making the boxes up, we enjoyed coffee and donuts and enjoying the pre-holiday celebrations. The wonderful navy sailors joined us and shared with us about where they were from and their position on the ship.  It was an honor to help them.




We had a terrific Basketball Tournament from Dec, 26 till Dec. 30.  Alhambra won in a close final game against Bonita Vista High School.  Thanks for all our members who helped support this great fundraiser for the kids!! Mick, Jim, Al, John (Chair), Doug and Governor Angie are pictured.







Our Past-Presidents breakfast was another big hit on Jan. 1.  This was a free event for our members and guests and community members.  Our wonderful Past-Presidents paid, organized, cooked and cleaned up for over 100  guests.  Happy New Year to all!!!





About 40 members joined us for our annual Valentines Day Dinner. We had beautiful decorations,fun photo booth, delicious sit down dinner with wine,and scrumptious dessert. Dan Vaccaro and Ron Siepel were enjoying the lovely setting and appetizers during the party.



We held our Club Oratorical contest with 5 girls and 4 boys.  Our room was filed with parents, teachers and 30 members cheering on the kids! Our winners in both categories will go onto our Zone competition on April 18 at the Bonita Library.





Our Student Appreciation event honored 17 students from both elementary schools and private schools. We had everyone from the District Superintendent, parents, teachers and many of our Optimist members. Our future is in good hands!




Our club held a fantastic Easter Egg Hunt for the kids of Bonita and the surrounding areas.  We had over 200 children playing games, enjoying the Bounce House and having their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.  The Egg Hunt was so exciting and they all loved the prizes and treats in the eggs.



We were a huge part of the Grand Opening of the Province House in Bonita. This will be the new home of the Bonita Optimist Club starting in June. Over 100 people attended the 3.3 mile walk with County Supervisor Greg Cox followed by a delicious pancake breakfast prepared by the Bonita Optimist Club.  Pictured here are Club President Dan Vaccaro and the negotiator for this joint effort, past President Dwayne Junker along with other County and City officials.



The terrific cooks, Marlene and Luz, helped the club win FiRST PLACE in the Bonita Chili Cook-Off!  It was delicious and even the other contestants said they liked ours the best. The secret recipe was love, optimism and a few special spices  Way to go ladies!!




Club Blue, from Bonita Vista High School, performed for us at one of our monthly evening meetings.  They have won awards individually and as a group of over 100 students all over the country. We got to enjoy 4 smaller groups playing various instruments.  It was a fantastic evening!!




Club President, Dan Vaccaro, is signing the MOU with the County of San Diego for our use of Provence House.  Our keys will be given to us on July 1, 2015!!  Look for our Wine and Cheese Party to celebrate this "Homecoming" for our club! All of our meetings will now be held here!!


We awarded 7 graduating students with scholastic awards of $1000.00 each. They were from various high schools in the area. Not only did they each have tremendous GPA's but they all gave so much time and resources back to their respective communities. It made us know that our future is in excellent hands with these kids in it!




A full house came to celebrate the opening of our new home...PROVENCE HOUSE on July 1. We had about 80 people attending and sharing in the festivities with members and friends. A huge thank you to Dwayne Junker for working for 4 years to put this partnership with the County together. Also a thanks to the past-Presidents, Jean Vaccaro, Buffy Parker, Don Hamilton and the current President Dan Vaccaro for helping with their respective Board of Directors to help in solidifying this home for our Bonita Optimist Club.




We had another fun and successful golf tournament at the Bonita Golf Course.  There was a shot gun start and once the golfing was finished, scores were turned in, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and Silent Auction.  We made a lot of money to help the youth in our community.  Can't wait till next year!!



Chula Vista Mayor, Mary Salas, joined us for a wonderful and enlightening overview of all that is going on in the City of Chula Vista.  From the Bayfront on the West side to the Millennium Project on the East side, there's a huge amount of progress going on with the 2nd largest city in the County!



We installed our 13th new member at our morning meeting on Aug.20.  Lila works as the assistant for the Mayor and has worked for 3 different mayors in her 10 years with the City.  We are so happy to have her join our club as well as the other new members this year!! The more members, the more children can be helped by our energetic volunteers!!
